I wished someone had whispered in my ear before embarking on this rollercoaster ride called weight loss journey, probably I would have dodged many of these fitness catastrophes.
I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve attempted weight loss and stopped halfway. Well, this time around, I’m here to stay.
My dear readers, let me enlighten you on the things I wish I knew before beginning my weight loss journey.
I Wish I Knew:
I’m about to spill the beans on the downright bizarre truths about shedding those pounds:
1. The Scale Is a Frenemy:
The scale, that moody little gadget...
One day it’s your best friend, showing a glorious drop, and the next day it begins flashing numbers that make you question if you accidentally ate a small country overnight.
So, measure your success by how you feel, not just by those fickle numbers.
2. Sweat Is Fat Crying:
When you sweat, it's just your body’s way of saying “What is it, haven’t you done enough, the pains, the torment, the torture.”
Yeah, you're burning calories. However, don't expect to see instant results. Your body needs time to catch up with your efforts.
3. Carbs Are Not The Devil:
I once treated carbohydrates like edible demons, I even banned them from my plate.
But guess what? Carbs are essential for energy. I learned the hard way when I almost fainted at the market.
Go ahead and enjoy that carb in moderation, your body will thank you.
4. Exercise Is Not a Punishment:
No pain, no gain they said and I believed.
Newsflash; It’s not! Find something you enjoy, dance like nobody’s watching, skip ropes for fun or pretend you’re in a zombie apocalypse and run for your life😂😂.
After all, the goal is to move your body and have a blast while doing it.
5. Skipping Meals:
Skipping meals is like trying to win a marathon by hopping on one leg.
Starving yourself will slow down your metabolism and make you raid the fridge at midnight like a hungry raccoon.
Therefore, eat balanced meals throughout the day to boost your energy.
6. Celebrate Your Small Victories:
Comparison is the thief of joy and in the world of weight loss it's like comparing apples to oranges.
Each person’s journey is unique, what works for someone else might not work for you.
Therefore, embrace your little progress; fitting into those old jeans, feeling more energetic, climbing stairs without gasping for air like a fish out of water, resisting junk cravings, choosing water over soda. These are victories worth celebrating.
7. Healthy Food Can Taste Good:
My initial attempts at healthy cooking were a culinary catastrophe.
Smoothies that taste like bitter leaf water and oats that have the texture of gravel, but hang in there, with more trials, you’ll discover that healthy food can be more delicious.
8. Sleep Is a Secret Weapon:
Turns out, sleep is just as important as diet and exercise. Lack of sleep messes with your hormones, making you crave sugary snacks and drains willpower.
So, prioritize sleep — it's the laziest way to lose weight.
9. Hydrate Like a Boss:
Water is your best buddy on this journey, it keeps you hydrated, helps you feel full and your skin will also thank you.
10. It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint:
If I were to get a dollar everytime I had to quit because the progress was slow, I'd be richer than Dangote by now.
Make it a lifestyle instead of a one time thing. You might get frustrated but be consistent, the results will come.
Let’s Wrap It Up Here
There you have it — the hilariously ugly truths of weight loss.
Love yourself through the process, treat yourself with kindness, and remember that your worth isn't defined by your weight.
Arm yourself with these truths, and my prayer for you is that; may your journey be filled with more victories than setbacks and a lot of delicious guilt-free snacks😉.
Happy winning🥳💪!
