What’s Aunt Flo’s Problem?
Here is a list of common menstrual disorders :
Menorrhagia
This simply means heavy periods. Imagine a waterfall in your underwear that isn't even ready to stop at due time.
When you have a really heavy period that lasts longer than usual, they tend to soak through pads quickly, making you feel uncomfortable.
The most depressing part is when you’re called; hey sis, you’re stained .
Trust me, this isn’t fun.
Dysmenorrhea
This means painful periods, they are those belly aches that feel like a mini tornado swirling in your tummy.
This is actually very common and it might be mild or strong throbbing pain.
Oligomenorrhea
This is when your periods don’t come at a regular pattern every month. Sometimes they are early, late or even skip a month or more.
However, some changes in menstrual flow are normal at menarche, postpartum, or in the perimenopausal period.
Wait, who needs surprises when it comes to menstruation? Aren't joking with aunt flo please!
Amenorrhea
When a girl hasn't had her period by age 16 or hasn't had it for three months in a row without being pregnant, it's called amenorrhea otherwise called absence of periods.
Let’s say aunt Flo decided to go on a vacation.
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Some women feel a rollercoaster of emotions like being moody, irritable or sad before their periods. They might also have bloating, sore breasts, or headaches.
I'm on this table in certain months, where are my fellow PMS mates? We have a meeting.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
This is more intense, typically when PMS hits harder it's like battling a supervillain!
Girls with this disorder feel really down or anxious before their periods and it’s capable of affecting their daily life.
Endometriosis
Ever felt like your uterus is playing hide and seek?
This is when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, in places where it doesn't belong.
This tissue thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each period but the blood has no way to leave the body and becomes trapped.
It can cause painful periods, pain during sex and trouble getting pregnant.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome:
Hormones are typically playing out of action and fumbling. It happens when a girl's hormones are out of balance leading to enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.
PCOS can cause irregular periods, weight gain, acne, and excess hair growth.
